My Take On Business Cards: Are They Obsolete?

Do people still use business cards to connect? Show of hands? IMO, they are obsolete. Business cards aren’t experiences, they are static pieces of paper that cannot be updated. In the digital world we indulge ourselves in, am I really suppose to keep a stack of cards laying around?

Granted there are some pretty creative business cards out there and I have fun looking at them. I just feel there are more creative and efficient ways to connect with someone other than just dropping your card and walking away. To me, that is not making a real connection. I like to engage with someone and find out what they’re really about. What their passion is and what their interest are.

If a person is really interesting or engaging to me, I will use the power of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google before reaching out or connecting with them.

For these reasons, I never really carry business cards on me and I won’t be for Future Midwest tomorrow either. Maybe business cards work for some people and are good for non-creatives and non-techies, but they just don’t work for me. Instead I use an SMS text messaging service called Contexts to send out my contact info. Just text Dominic to 50500 and voila! Not to mention you can find me on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google

What are your thoughts and feelings on this one?

I LOVE how Puma has reinvented the shoe box! This is why I have been rocking their gear since I was a little shorty…
